Dolphin is the common name of aquatic mammals within the infraorder Cetacea. The term dolphin usually refers to the extant families Delphinidae, Platanistidae, named Iniidae, and Pontoporiidae, and the extinct Lipotidae. There are 40 extant species named as dolphins.

National Dolphin Day is a special day on April 14th to celebrate dolphins. National Dolphin Day is listed as part of the American Veterinary Medical Association Pet Health Awareness Events.
